First off, every time I tried to type Flowing River it came out Flowering River. While it was annoying, isn’t that a pretty visual?

Flowing River

Meaning: Everything is falling into place because you aren’t resisting the drift of the great river of life. It’s time to let go. You’re entering a period of gracious ease and flow. All is u unfolding perfectly ad with good timing. When you’re in a state of flow, you aren’t pushing the river to go faster and you aren’t swimming against it. Let go of the shore and enjoy the ride.

Native Spirit Message: Rivers have personalities and carry energy, just as animals and plants do. From the Maoris to the Australian Aborigines, and to other native cultures throughout the world, it’s believed that it’s important to listen to the language of the river. If you aren’t feeling the smooth currents of life, it might mean that you’re trying to control situations or that you’re being self=critical or judgmental. The way to move into flow is through gratitude and appreciation, and by allowing others to support and help you. Heeed the Native American saying: “It’s best to ride the horse the direction that it’s going.” This means that when the card Flowing River chooses you, you’re being told to let go and go with he flow. If there is something or someone you need to forgive, this the is the time. YThis is also the time to forgive yourself and just let go.

The Journey: As you shower and the water flows over your body, imagine that everyone is flowing in your life. Spend time next to a river or stream and watch the flowering waters; use it as a metaphor to let go and enter the flow.

I often see progression from one day’s card to another. Yesterday’s duo of rest and guidance seem to have prepared us for today’s visit from the Dragonfly. Perhaps the guidance you found yesterday is something you resist. Often, we resist a path that we need out of fear. Dragonfly is telling us to set that aside and trust the journey.

These two were both strong today, so I decided to post both. I’m feeling that the suggestion is that some of us need to slow down and rest to receive the guidance we need. Sometimes approaching a situation without proper thought and rest for the mind and body just leads to more confusion. Take a breath and a rest and see where it leads you.

Four of Arrows – Rest

Meaning: Recharging after a period of stressful activity, work, or emotional trauma. Allow time for the imagination to sojourn into the Otherworld to renew and rejuvenate vitality.

Description: On the ground lies a figure with closed eyes. There are four arrows driven into the earth, two at at the head and two at the knees. Rising above is a great multicolored butterfly from which rays of energy pour in all directions, bathing the figure in light.

Reading Points: In this stressful and demanding world, we sometimes forget that rest is a necessary part of a healthy lifestyle and sleep a vital part of recuperation and the healing process. THE WITCH – The earthly weaver of the worlds

Witch: The catalyst for change

Witches have had bad PR for a couple of millennia now. Originally the healers or cunning women of the village, the very word “witch” is believed to come from the Celtic word “wicce” meaning weaver or wise.** When the new religion of Christianity spread through the land, the custodians of the old Pagan ways, in part witches, were labeled as evil and – as we know from history – persecuted. They were driven underground (or under the night sky) into the shadows of misunderstanding and darkness.

However, for the purpose of Halloween, let’s look at witches as the weavers of magic and change. Through spells and rituals and even through herbal recipes (yes, often brewed in a cauldron), they weave the powers of this world and the next in synergy to solve problems and heal.

Holding the Witch card means that you can weave your own change throughout life and that magic indeed is afoot! You must understand that you have power and it is real. It may also indicate that others may be threatened by your developing personal power and that they may not appreciate or like the changes in you as you grow. Be prepared for this and do not be discouraged. New friends and better opportunities will be attracted instead.

The Wheel

Reading Points: The Wheel has turned; change is at hand. In all nature, there is a time and tide. The cyclic laws of birth, death, and rebirth are ever revolving and, without change, all things stagnate. How you dal with this change is the issue here. Within the tangled and tightly woven fabric of chance, you have the power to make a difference. By your own action you can change your life. You are not a prisoner of fate, but an integral part of it. Remember, this is not a dress rehearsal! Life is what happens to you while you are waiting for it to begin. Meaning: The Wheel traditionally represents the cycles of eternal law and evolution that all living creatures are covered by. Change is unavoidable and necessary if the cycles of nature are to remain alive and regenerative. But on the human level, we are the weavers of our own destiny. Consciously or unconsciously, we make the patterns and possibilities that the universe has to offer and, although the seemingly random, chaotic nature of the universe always has the final world, we can affect our own life and that of the world by taking control of our destiny. Many believe that fate is set, that all things are predesigned no matter what we do in this human reality, but the weaver of the cloak can affect this ever-shifting metric of potential just by recognizing the pattern and making timely decisions. We can grasp the web of fate and weave in our own special, personal pattern.

Although the jigsaw puzzle of probability and possibility holds the universe together in a loose web of predictable events, nothing is set in stone. The very act of asking a question creates a whole new set of possible outcomes. But be aware! With this ability to weave our own destiny comes with responsibility. Our actions are not without risk. If things are out of balance with the universe, the Wheel will bring change in order to restore natural harmony to the web of fate.

THE BANES – WOLFSBANE, HEMLOCK, & HENBANE

KEYWORDS: Power, unexpected aid, and relief (or ill will, betrayal, and difficulty)

MEANING: Life can sometimes seem almost unbearable. If you have chosen this card, it may mean that you are surrounded by pressures and difficulties. But life is fundamentally mysterious, and out of the blue something can happen that acts as a catalyst for change. We are so used to the high drama and “big stories” of movies and television that we forget the immense power of the smallest things.
