This card reminds me of the quote, “You are the result of a thousand loves.” Even if you’re relationship with current ancestors is fraught, we must remember that our ancestry goes beyond them (or as I like to say about one side of my ancestry, “They can’t all be assholes, can they?”)

Horsetail is here to show you there is more security at work than you might realize – you might just need to grow a little differently than you thought.

Have a lovely Wednesday!

Ten of Earth – Horsetail

Ancient magic, modern medicine; find strength deep within; the wisdom of the elders takes root in the bones of youth.

A basket decorated with horsetail roots rests on a bridge over a dense marsh. Alder trees lean to create a canopy above. The lush blanket of green covers the muddy earth beneath. The young spring shoots of horsetail are perfect for gathering.

You are safe and secure. You are a well-established member of your community; know your work supports and sustains others. Horsetail both gathers nutrients and removes toxins from the area. Understand your connection to the greater purpose of life. Pause and connect often with all you have been given. Horsetail is a relative of a 400-million-year-old plant. You come from ancestral giants. This all has taken place before. Sometimes in order to effective you learn to grow small and multiply. Nourish an underground network. Mindfully gather from resources that have carried generations. Horsetail is favored among biodynamic gardeners as natural fertilizer; the future can build on the strength of the past.

Crafting with Ten of Earth:

• Visit a marsh and make a gratitude offering to the ancestral giants of modern horsetail.
• Harvest and dry horsetail in the spring to regain strength and vitality from its rich minerals.
• Invite the wisdom of the elders – craft a talisman of horsetail root in the fall.

Transformation can be amazing, but it can also be scary for some people. It pays to remember that powerful transformation doesn’t have to be a big, huge thing – sometimes it’s the subtle, small changes that have the most effect on our lives. Don’t run from transformation today; it’s time to see what needs to change.

Blessings!

Butterfly Spirit – Transformation is Beautiful

Message: Joy and the beautiful lightness of being alive and creative in the world is the focus when Butterfly Spirit flutters before you. Transformation is inevitable as you grow into your most beautiful, empowered self. Indeed, you will go through some uncomfortable stages as you let go of the forms of your life that no longer fit the new you. Even relationships must go through shifts to match your new emerging self. If you focus on the beauty and not the challenges, stop taking yourself too seriously, and choose to to be playful, loving, and joyous, you will soon know the miracle your soul wants to experience through you. Today is a day for joy, so alight! Look around and see the beauty that is everywhere and in everyone, including you.

Protection Message: Transformation doesn’t have to be as traumatic or dramatic as things may seem to be right now. Remember, change is the only true constant; when you resist it, you create a tension within you as you refuse to accept the inevitable. In this moment, you might have forgotten the beauty and joy of life as it moves through its seasons, as nature dictates. You are being faced with a choice now. You can struggle with the current condition, refusing to surrender, and see through the lens of lack and loss, or you can surrender to the grace that is calling you to allow life to take its course, moving through the sadness and disappointment. Surrender will soften you, inviting you to bask in gratitude and see through the lens of curiosity; these are the key to tuning in to the infinite potential available to you now. Butterfly Spirit knows the beauty and delight you are on the brink of discovering. Let go and trust that it is there for you.

This definitely hit home for me as last week proved to be one that dredged up some anxiety and restlessness. Time to recenter and ground to not let the day-to-day issues knock you around.

TIME TO GROUND

We all experience moments in our lives when we feel confused, unfocused, and surrounded by chaos and turmoil. These moments are often unavoidable, as are the lessons these moments can impart. But how you respond to them is a choice that only you can make. Take a deep breath and a moment to pause and reconnect with Gaia and nature. Seek the silence of the void within while your spirit spirals downward to anchor itself like an ancient tree rooted in the cleansing embrace of the earth beneath you.

It’s tempting to rush to an answer when the questioning must be done but is uncomfortable. Don’t fall for it – give yourself the time to consider things and make a decision that is truly best for you.

Wild Rose: A Thorny Question

Keywords & Phrases: Difficult decisions, something troublesome that needs to be sorted out, making tricky choice, bothersome issues, rather worrying enquiries, awkward questions being asked.

Meaning: In Grandville’s engraving, Wild Rose is a lady who looks less than comfortable. She has a wild rose in her hair and others at her great, but thorny, stems wrap her round in a rather nasty embrace. Two rosehips dangle from her wrists as if she has been handcuffed. She is also wearing a rather tight reship necklace.

This card tell you that a difficult decision may need to be made. The pros and cons of each possible course of action may be whirling round your headed morning, noon, and night. Someone may be pressuring you to make up your mind right now.

Of course, this feels stressful, but an over-hasty decision must be avoided. It sound simplistic, but writing it down can help. Set it out like a chart: Pros, Cons, Likely Outcomes. Then leave it for a day or two. Sleep on it. Go to the cinema, meet up with a friend who has nothing to do with the issue. Over these two days, your path may become clearer. Thorny questions should not be answered in a rush.

Looks like today is one for quick thinking and action – be on the lookout for the need to adjust.

Have a great Wednesday,

Fox Spirit – Think on your feet

Message: Be alert now, for Fox Spirit has appeared and you are meant to move swiftly. Let this clever spirit draw out your creativity as you adjust to rapidly changing circumstances with resilience, grace, and astuteness. Fox Spirit helps you to think on your feet, using your best judgement and wits to help you slip into a more advantageous situation. Now is not a time to hesitate but a time for swift action of the mind, a time to think outside the box and notice the many ways in which you might make a move, aware of your surroundings and always clear on what you deserve and wish to co-create. Trust that your cleverness, guided by Fox Spirit, will serve you well.

Protection Message: Are you camouflaging yourself to avoid intimacy? Perhaps you are being too clever for your own good and playing games to protect yourself. Being dishonest with yourself or others can become isolating and create obstacles to true connection. Fox Spirit calls you to be attuned to what is happening within you and around you so that your quick thinking and creativity can lead you to better relationships and situations. You are called to use your Fox Spirit beneficially rather than in ways that keep you from experiencing what you want.

Or perhaps right now you are realizing that a situation is trickier than it appears on the surface, and you are afraid to make a move in case it turns out to be a mistake. Fox Spirit is here to remind you that when you are in alignment with the Great Spirit, the answers and solutions can come quickly and you can trust them. Don’t overthink a situation in order to avoid the challenge of facing a difficult truth. Fox Spirit’s creative nature will always be there to guide you and help you move quickly into better circumstances.

The primroses native to the Midwestern area I live in bloom more in late spring or early summer, so for us the daffodil is a bit more the first bloom of spring for many people. Still, this card indicates something new coming along as well as creativity. Interestingly, my love and I were talking just last night about getting my creative juices going again.

Have a lovely Friday and weekend, everyone!

Primrose – Love, Creativity, and Rebirth

Meaning: Because they are so small and beautiful, and are among the first flowers to appear after winter, Primroses have always been associated with romantic love and new beginnings. Drawing this card may indicate that a new love is entering your life, or that a fresh wave of tenderness will appear in an existing partnership. Our relationships, like our dreams, have seasons, and however long you have been together it is still possible for a new cycle to being.

Alternatively, this card may indicate not the dawn of romantic love but the rising of creativity within you. The Primrose is the flower of the Bard, and each of us has a Bard within us who longs to sing the song of their soul and tell the story of their heart.

Out of the cauldron of Cerridwen came three drops, and the changes experienced by Gwion Bach were profound and many. A third possibility is that, rather than love or creativity, this card is pointing to a birthing of wisdom.

On the flip side, this card could be reminding us that a search for love can easily turn into a trap that ensnares you in a world of illusion. Hollywood tries to ensure that none of us feels fulfilled unless we are in the throes of a passionate love affair, and yet experience, and now studies of brain chemistry, tells us that the initial stages of love give way either to disillusion and separation, or a less intense form of affection, care, and companionship that can lead to a fruitful and long-lasting relationship. If you have chosen this card reversed, you may need to objectively assess whether you have fallen pretty to the illusory aspect of romantic love. To what degree is your quest in life to find completion through another human being, or through yourself?

We saw this card just a couple months ago, but clearly there’s more to be done here. This is an intimidating figure in the boat paired with the beauty and hope of the full moon and sunset. Look at the vessel – a swan – and the sail. Look at the calm waters as you sail into the dark, as they are calmer than you might think. Much to consider here.

Blessings,

Thistle

Six of Arrows – Transitions

Meaning: Movement toward new possibilities, or cycles, within your own personality or thought processes. A subconscious impulse to travel beyond your present horizons that have become static. Possibly an anxious or testing time of uncertainty, but harnessing positive energies and drives will add purposeful momentum to the coming changes.

Reading Points: The primal impulse here is to move beyond old boundaries and personal thought processes and deploy new methods of reasoning to resolve important issues. Some obstacles may challenge older methods, and new, more dynamic responses are required to adapt to a new set of paradigms.

This can be an exciting process. The journey may be scary, since letting go of old and previously effective processes can be unsettling, but the unseen tides that drive the need to evolve are already pulling you to new experiences and places. Trusting in your own instincts and skills to absorb change is essential to overcome new situation. Take advantage of your subconscious forward momentum and ride the new wave with an open heart and a positive mental attitude. Welcome any new process with confidence and apply your skills to effect healing renewal. Embrace well-tried experiences also, as the Wheel inevitably turns, and enter into these personal changes with stoical enthusiasm.

Here’s another serious card for our week – there’s nothing gentle or meek about the Wodwose as he confronts and challenges us. Can you stand in respect and courage to this initiator?

Blessings,

Thistle

NINE OF BOWS – RESPECT

MEANING: When nearing the heart of a sacred quest, motivation and integrity of human desires are challenged. Ancient wisdom demands the seeker be humble and forgiving. Respect for others and for the environment is required to proceed along the path to enlightenment. There is no completion without overcoming the challenge.

DESCRIPTION: The wild and fearsome Wodwose of the forest crosses your path, brandishing a rough-hewn bow. The Wodwose is linked to many ancient worldwide legends of large and hairy wild men of the forest. He challenges our dedication and courage to continue along a chosen path.

READING POINTS: To follow the path through the Wildwood is not without its challenges and demands. When entering any such environment, one must be prepared to face the dangers and natural perils that abide there. Having empathy for the environment and being ready to deal with it respectfully and in a practical manner is to learn another lesson and take away fresh insight. If we look deeper for meaning in the forces blocking our way, we often see how we have contributed to the problem and how we attracted these negative energies through lack of self-discipline, or mistakes made in the past. The sign of an evolved spirit is someone who can acknowledge past failures or defeats without bitterness and self-torment and move forward through life with a positive outlook and wisdom gathered through struggle. The Wodwose reminds us to treat the challenges of the Wildwood with patience and compassion, marking each scar or wound suffered during the struggle as a badge of honor, earned and overcome by inner courage, dedication, and faith in the lore of natural justice.

I know, I know – who wants to think deeply on a Monday? Sometimes, that’s just how the Universe works.

Swan Spirit – Time for a Deep Dive

Message: With their graceful, long necks, swans are able to reach into the depths. When Swan Spirit arrives, you are called to take a deep dive, beyond what is easily availing on the surface. You may think you know what is best for you now, but take the plunge to the depths of your awareness, for there is knowledge you are not aware of and great treasures to discover. Deeper understanding awaits you, and a perspective that comes from greater self-knowledge is what you need right now to better understand a situation or relationship.

As you come to know yourself more intimately, so too will you come to better know others, so Swan Spirit asks you to go behind the surface of what is happening between you and others and resist the temptation to judge by superficial appearances. Know there is much deeper potential for loving connections, forgiveness, and mutual understanding.  Choose to dive deep, into your Why. Asking the deeper questions of yourself, you are led by the grace of Swan Spirit.

Protection Message: Don’t talk yourself into diving deep into something just because you see the potential of things instead of what they really are now. The necessary work and patience involved may not be the best use of your energy. Have you seen the potential in someone and think that if you love and support them, they will become the person who knows you love them beyond all others? Have you stepped into an opportunity that you know feels too good to be true and might not turn out the way you hope?

Now is not a time for selective, limited perception that can lead to misjudgment. Instead, this is a time for going deep and being honest about what you find as you explore the depths. Have no fear, for whatever you find below will help you love and understand yourself and others, and make better choices. Can you sense Swan Spirit calling you to dive deep and resurface to choose again?
