We don’t see many Cranes in my area; we do have Great Blue Herons, and both birds are patient and seem to exude wisdom. In the Crane card, don’t miss the full moon and the carved cave entrance in the background. Crane is telling us to seek deeper meaning and to be patient with it.

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday,

Thistle

CRANE – Secret knowledge, patience, longevity

MEANING: Crane brings the qualities of patience and perseverance. The crane will stand for hours peering into the water until the time is right for it to dart at its prey. Combined with the ability to be patient, the Crane conveys the capacity to be focused and to be able to concentrate without distraction. It brings an ability to guide others into the Underworld, to help them with their transition at the time of dying, or with their journeying in the inner realms. As well as conveying an ability to work in the Underworld, the crane symbolizes arcane science, or Secret Knowledge, which in the Druid tradition is represented by the Ogham script – the tree language of Druidry. In its widest sense, learning this language involves learning to read the “Book of Nature.”

The Crane is also able to join it colleagues to fly in formation or to dance together. You may need to learn the right balance between being alone and working with others. Spending too much time alone can create feelings of isolation and separation. Conversely, having no time to oneself can be an avoidance of self-knowledge and the uncomfortable feelings of loneliness. Spend a while looking at tour life to see whether you give yourself enough time having both of these experiences. The shadow side of the Crane is manifested as harshness, meanness and a nagging, complaining disposition. If you find these qualities showing sometimes in your behavior, see if you can experience the deeper aspects of the Crane, in which it becomes an animal of the Goddess-as-crone or wise woman. Ask yourself to what extant you are denying the wise woman who has a knowledge of death and the Underworld in yourself, and to what extent your negative behavior may be a reflection of this denial.

THE CARD: The card shows a crane fishing in a pool. Its legs are crossed to show the Ogham letter Muinn, and it gazes into the water, patiently waiting for sight of a fish. Behind the pool is a cave entrance to the Underworld, and in the evening sky the full moon is rising. In the foreground grow bitter vetch and bloody crane’s bill.

This card description is short but speaks volumes. Sometimes we have to use our best judgment (which is not a bad word, by the way) when dealing with others and even making choices for ourselves. Today is the day to step up to it – best of luck with it!

Blessings,

Thistle

King of Arrows – Kingfisher

READING POINTS: You may need to exercise judgment, power, or force of will. The king is impartial and helps you to see clearly what you no longer need to hold onto. Use your strength to cut yourself free of what weighs you down.

MEANING: This tiny bird, both sexes covered with the colors of the rainbow, is equally at home in the air or in the water. With its remarkable ability to dive into the water and catch fish, the Kingfisher has been symbolic of ancient wisdom and lore for centuries.

Tracks & Pathways: Intelligence, strength, watchfulness, counseling, and the ability to judge true from false.

With everything going on in the world, it is important to remember not to lose yourself to the bad things we are inundated with daily. Remember to take time for family and friends and what gives you joy – and for what keeps your soul in a healthy place. Anger can be a tool, but don’t live there. The little Blackbird may not look like much, but it only takes some self-awareness and effort to keep yourself in a good headspace and heart space.

Blessings and have a good weekend,

Thistle

Blackbird – Enchantment, The Gateway, The Inner Call

The card shows a blackbird sitting on a rowan tree. It is twilight and the first stars are just appearing in the sky. In the background, we can see the entrance to an enchanted cave. Blackbird is the bird of both the gateway and the forge.

Meaning: Blackbird (Druid Dhubh) calls to us from the gateway between two worlds, urging us to follow a spiritual path or to become more self-aware. He calls to us in the twilight, showing us the path to Otherworldly secrets, pointing out eh ways in which we can discover more about our hidden motivations and potential. There are times in life when it is important to concentrate on the outer world and your responsibilities in that world, but there are also times when you must attend to the haunting sone of your soul that calls you to a study of spiritual truths, and to an exploration of the inner world through dreams and myths. In heeding Druid Dhubh’s song, you will discover healing and new depths in your soul.

This card may also be here to remind you that the blackbird is the smith’s bird, and his song may be calling you to work in the forge of your own heart – to create a life of passion and purpose. All four elements are used in metal-working, and to create a healthy and balanced life we must work with the power of the four elements, integrating and developing our minds and hearts, our instinct and our intuition. Just standing at the gateway between two worlds, without truly working in either, is a denial of our own power and responsibility.

I did a double-take when this card popped up today. At a time when people are coming together to protect reproductive and other rights that are being taken away, this is the time for women of all kinds to come together and show their power. The Madre cards are all nourishing in nature, but Madre of Earth is perfect for building community and healing.

Blessings,

Madre of Earth – Creosote

Be a guardian of the wild places; build circles of women; share the medicine

A woman travels deep into a canyon surrounded by the scrub plants of the Sonoran Desert. A large, dancing rock towers before her, a flat mesa sturdy behind it. Before collecting medicine, she makes an offering to the land. She raises a clay bowl full of creosote flowers to the sun and sings a song of gratitude.

Meaning: Madre of Earth provides for herself and her community. Like the creosote bush, she creates many remedies. She honors the land as she gathers medicine. She is in good health and inspires others to the same with her grounded daily rituals. She know creosote bush thrives in depleted soil where other plants cannot. She too is considered a survivor because of her ability to grow strong. As a true guardian of the place, she learns from creosote, the mother of all plants, how to enhance the lives of generations beyond her lifetime. She steadily supports her people as well as the animals and plants of the region. Embrace your quiet nature; it is the foundation of grace.

Crafting with the Madre of Earth:

• Empower future generations: lead a medicine walk in your community.
• Protect wild spaces: make an offering to the land in the form of a mandala.
• Share the medicine: make creosote salve and give it away to everyone.

On several occasions, dragonflies have been key to augery for times of my life, so I definitely see this spirit helping us to see past the illusions that both the world and our own minds create for us. Take time to examine things in your life and if you are perceiving them correctly.

Blessings!

Dragonfly Spirit – Truth Transcends Illusion

Message: Dragonfly Spirit is here to remind you of the wisdom and truth available at all times in the hidden realms. Just as a dragonfly catches your eye with its reflective wings and body, Dragonfly Spirit appears to tell you to pay attention to the truth beyond the illusion and recognize the insights that come seemingly out of nowhere, peeking through from behind the veil. In the realm of Spirit, there is far more wisdom that you can perceive with our senses, and there is a deep knowing that you are not separate or alone, for a higher power recognizes you and loves you beyond measure. Fears dissipate as you realize you are embraced by the nurturing force that is everywhere, always in communication with you.

Alighting when you are preoccupied, Dragonfly Spirit offers this message: You exist in unity with all, including the protective spirits who share their wisdom, and you are being nudged along the path your soul needs to travel to have the experiences it creates.

Pay attention to the signs now; they remind you that each of us have inspired dreams seamlessly sewn into the fabric of the invisible world, and there is a Great Consciousness that exists in the seemingly empty spaces, guiding us on our journey. Open to the truth, letting the wisdom of the hidden realms inform you, providing insight your conscious mind overlooks.

Protection Message: Did you really think this world of the senses is all there is? From the hidden mystical realms, signs are being sent to you, but perhaps you have perceived separation and convinced yourself that you are on your own. Have you fallen into spiritual amnesia and forgotten your connection to a living, loving, always supportive universe? If so, rub the sleep out of your eyes, for Dragonfly Spirit is here to remind you of all the love and support available to you in every moment. There is an organizing principle underlying the events you have experienced, and Dragonfly Spirit can help you see it and trust that Spirit has your back. Let go of the illusion of chaos and randomness. Love is here, so follow the signs that appear serendipitously. As you pay attention to the magic all around you, you will know you are on the right track.

Hydrangea – Gratitude

It is no accident that you are here now, at this time. You are a part of the unfolding. You are loved, you matter, you are important.

Meaning: Look for messages in small ways. A butterfly suddenly appearing, a feather floating down from the sky or on your path, a dragonfly hovering near you, the sudden scan of roses, of flowers. You are loved. The Earth and the world of spirit are here too support you. You need only ask.

Channeled Message: Your energies, thoughts, and feelings are real things. They can bring love, harmony, healing, and peace to the world or they can bring despair and hopelessness. You are far more powerful than you think or can even imagine. There are those of you in despair because you do not understand how vitally important you are to the fabric of being. It is no accident act you are here now, at this time. You are part of the unfolding. Some of you who are struggling mentally and emotionally. You matter – you are important. Reach out to your loved ones, or if you cannot, reach out to plants. Sit under a tree and pour your heartache out to the tree or plant being. Your thoughts will be heard and healing will be sent to you.

Traditional Uses: The root and rhizome are traditionally used to make medicine. Check with an herbalist for more information.
